Almost any modern design contains a combination of application-specific (custom) designed modules, and a series of commercial-off-the-shelf devices and modules. Combining these classes of devices and modules into a single coherent system is generally much more challenging than it typically first appears. Scientific Systems has had many years of experience in the integration of systems, especially where existing systems need to be expanded in either performance or functionality, or in staged/phased projects where future expansion is anticipated or expected, and where future expansion may require the development bespoke or application-specific devices which are not available as commercial-off-the-shelf modules.

To fully support systems integration activities, Scientific Systems retains the in-house capability to design, develop and implement almost any bespoke or custom sensors, test & measurement devices and metrology systems, actuators, interfaces, modules, software, databases and the like. These capabilities are in addition to competencies in all typical commercial, industrial, and Industry 4.0 modules and sub-systems, such as, Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) design and configuration, Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) system design and configuration, along with a range of device/module specific configuration applications.

Scientific Systems is not a reseller of equipment or systems and so is unencumbered by internal commercial imperatives to use or prioritise any particular manufacturer's devices – Scientific Systems chooses the best available commercial-off-the-shelf devices for the project at hand with regard only to functionality, performance, suitability, and with the commercial constraints of availability, cost, etc. This typically results in systems with devices from several manufacturers, combined with application-specific (custom designed) modules and sub-systems where necessary.

Scientific Systems' ability to deliver application-specific modules and sub-systems is bolstered by our multi-disciplinary technical & commercial design and development capabilities, including:

Electrical and Electronics design and development, including analogue, digital, RF and optical hardware design, embedded systems, bespoke sensors, test & measurement systems, and instrumentation

 

Mechanical design, including machinery, jigs , thermal design, fluid power design (pneumatic and hydraulic control), and electro-mechanical systems
